The UEFA EURO 2016 OR UEFA European Championship 2016 is the 15th edition of the quadrennial international men’s football championship organized by UEFA. UEFA (Union of European Football Association) is the administrative body association for football in Europe. It is currently being held in France from 10th June to 10th July 2016.Spain is the two-time defending champion, having won the 2008 and 2012 editions.
The European Championship will be contested by 24 teams, for the first time having been expanded from the 16 team format used since 1996.France was chosen as the host nation on 28 May 2010 after bidding process. The matches will be played in ten stadia in ten cities including Nice, Lens, Paris, Saint-Denis, Marseille, Lyon, Lille, Bordeaux, Saint-Etienne& Toulouse.
It will be the third time that France hosts the tournament after the inaugural tournament in 1960 and 1984 finals.
Among 24 teams maximum number of participated team is Germany who has participated continuously 11 times since 1972 and won 3 times. The Germany national football team is the men’s football team that has represented Germany in the international competition since 1908. It is governed by German Football Association founded in 1900.Germany is one of the most successful national teams in international competitions, having won a total of four World Cups (1954, 1974, 1990, 2014) and three European Championship (1972,1980,1996).They have also been runner-up three times in the European Championship, four times in the World Cup and further four third World Cup places. East Germany won Olympic Gold in 1976.Germany is the only nation to have won both the men’s and woman’s World Cups. At the end of 2014 FIFA World Cup, Germany earned the highest Elo rating of any national football team in the history with a record 2200 points. Germany is also the only European nation that has won a FIFA World Cup in the Americas.
